The Senate on Thursday confirmed Russ Vought to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in a party-line vote.

Vought is considered by Democrats to be President Donald Trump's most controversial nominee, as an architect behind the conservative Project 2025, which Trump attempted to separate himself from during his presidential campaign.

The new director was confirmed in a 53-47 vote, which saw no Democrat support him. His confirmation also comes after Democrats attempted to stall the vote in an all-night protest session on Wednesday.

Vought previously held the post during the first Trump administration, though Democrats have balked at his views on executive budgetary powers as the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) tears through federal agencies, according to Fox News.

House Speaker Mike Johnson applauded Vought's confirmation in a post on X on Thursday night.

"Congratulations to [Russ Vought] for being confirmed as Director of OMB," Johnson wrote. "Russ is a conservative force against the radical left and the Washington establishment. With his help, we’ll restore fiscal sanity to our budgets and dismantle the regulatory state."
