Senate expected to hold first vote on Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' on Saturday
The vote comes after the House passed its version of the legislation earlier this month, and the Senate hopes to pass its version by July 4.
The Senate is expected to hold its first vote on its version of President Donald Trump's "One, Big Beautiful Bill" on Saturday, sources told Politico Friday, with the initial vote scheduled tentatively for 12 p.m. Eastern.
The timeline was revealed during a closed-door lunch on Friday, where House Speaker Mike Johnson tried to sell Senate Republicans on the House's state-and-local-taxes (SALT) deduction cap agreement. Sens. John Kennedy of Louisiana and John Hoeven of North Dakota confirmed the timeline that was announced in the meeting.
The vote comes after the House passed its version of the legislation earlier this month, and the Senate is hoping to see the final version of the legislation make it to the president's desk by July 4.
Senators returned to Washington, D.C., on Monday to work on passing the bill, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune vowed not to let members leave the city until the job is finished. However, the Senate Parliamentarian has stripped some of the chamber's provisions, including key changes to funding for Medicaid.
