Senators will stay on Capitol Hill this weekend to vote on a slate of legislation, with the passage of a budget resolution, a blueprint for President Trump's proposed tax cut, the top priority for chamber Republicans.

The vote could come as early as Saturday.

The GOP-controlled Senate will try to pass the resolution with a simple, 50-vote majority, through a parliamentary process known as budget reconciliation. One of the rules for using the reconciliation process is that the resolution cannot increase the deficit.

The likely weekend vote comes days after top Senate Republicans said they do not plan to seek a ruling from Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough on whether their resolution meets the required guidelines because their own analysis, with the tax cuts being made permanent, shows that it does.

The resolution also includes $175 billion for border security and different sets of instructions for the Senate and House. The House instructions call for raising the debt limit by $4 trillion, while the Senate instructions detail a $5 trillion increase to the debt ceiling, according to The Hill newspaper.
