Texas GOP unveils new congressional maps, with 5 possible pickups
Ohio is also expected to redraw its maps to gain GOP seats and Democrats have mulled similar moves to counter their efforts.
Texas Republicans on Wednesday unveiled a plan to redraw the state's congressional district maps and create new, Republican-leaning seats that could tip the balance of Congress in the midterms.
State Rep. Todd Hunter, R, introduced the measure in the Lone Star State, The Hill reported. Under his proposed lines, Republicans stand to gain as many as five seats in Congress.
The current lower chamber makeup stands at 219 Republicans to 212 Democrats, meaning even a small advantage could determine the results in 2026.
