Comey maintains his innocence in new video after federal indictment: 'I am not afraid'
“My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump,” Comey said in the Instagram video. “But we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way, We will not live on our knees and you shouldn’t either.“
Former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday night released a video hours after federal indictment against him, saying that he is innocent and not afraid of a trial.
“My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump,” Comey said in the Instagram video. “But we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way, We will not live on our knees and you shouldn’t either."
Comey was indicted by a grand jury in Virginia over allegations by the Justice Department that he made false statements to Congress when he denied leaking information to the media and for an alleged obstruction of justice.
The former FBI director said that he was not afraid of the charges and encouraged other Americans not to be afraid and instead become engaged in the process so they will vote in the next presidential election.
"My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system," he continued. "I’m innocent. So let’s have a trial and keep the faith.”
