Don Lemon hires former federal prosecutor who resigned from DOJ over Minnesota probes
Thompson now joins Hunter Biden's former lawyer Abbe Lowell in representing Lemon, who has maintained that he was covering the protest as a journalist and has not committed any wrongdoing.
Former CNN host Don Lemon hired one of Minnesota's top former federal prosecutors Tuesday, who recently resigned from the U.S. attorney’s office in Minnesota over the Justice Department pushing him to investigate the widow of a woman who was killed by a federal immigration officer last month.
Joseph Thompson, who was second in command at the U.S. attorney’s office in Minnesota and oversaw the widespread fraud investigation that has upset the state's political landscape in recent years, told the judge overseeing Lemon's case that he will represent the former news anchor ahead of Friday's court appearance, according to The Hill.
Lemon was arrested late last month and charged with conspiracy and interfering with the First Amendment rights of worshipers during a Jan. 18 protest at the Cities Church in St. Paul.
Thompson now joins Hunter Biden's former lawyer Abbe Lowell in representing Lemon, who has maintained that he was covering the protest as a journalist and has not committed any wrongdoing.
Thompson has not publicly commented on joining Lemon's team.
