Federal judge extends block on deportation flights Alien Enemies Act through mid-April
Boasberg said the new extension will expire on April 12.
A federal judge on Friday extended his block to mid-April on deportation flights that President Donald Trump has approved through the war time power Alien Enemies Act.
U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg first issued the block earlier this month, which prohibits the Trump administration from using the 1798 act to deport illegal migrants who were allegedly members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
The Justice Department has now asked the Supreme Court to allow the administration to restart the flights, after a lower appeals court rejected the department's request. The Justice Department argued federal courts should not be allowed to interfere with diplomatic negotiations.
Boasberg said the new extension will expire on April 12.
Another judge in Boston on Friday blocked the Trump administration from deporting migrants to countries that they have no connection with, without a court appearance, according to Fox News.
