A federal judge on Monday appeared skeptical of a Department of Homeland Security program allowing states to remove non-citizens from their voter rolls by allowing them to compare the rolls with a DHS citizenship database.

The League of Women Voters sued the DHS over the program, leading Sooknanan to opine that she "doubts the lawfulness" of the program, though she declined to impose a stay, the Washington Times reported.

Sooknanan determined that the plaintiffs had not shown sufficient injury for her to impose a judicial order blocking the measure, but indicated she would expedite proceedings in the case.

The case comes as the administration continues its efforts to crackdown on illegal immigration and election integrity in a string of measures that have met with legal challenges nationwide.
