Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. is set to release a new book this fall, according to publisher Hachette Book Group.

The book, So Ordered: An Originalist’s View of the Constitution, the Court, and Our Country, is scheduled for release on Oct. 6, 2026, and is currently available for pre-order.

Since joining the high court in 2006, Alito has become one of the nation’s most influential conservative voices and a leading advocate of originalism—the judicial philosophy that interprets the Constitution according to its original public meaning.

In a statement announcing the book, the publisher described it as a “surprisingly personal” work in which Alito defends his originalist approach to constitutional interpretation while reflecting on faith, the nature of law, and broader trends in American
culture.

The book also addresses what Alito sees as growing threats to individual liberties.

Drawing on two decades of service on the Supreme Court, Alito is expected to offer his perspective on some of the nation’s most contentious legal and constitutional disputes.

According to the publisher, the book argues that amid America’s ongoing culture wars, certain political movements have turned to the judiciary to advance policy objectives, often through judges who, in Alito’s view, gave insufficient regard to constitutional limits.

The book also traces the rise of the legal movement grounded in originalism and textualism—an approach that emerged in response to these trends and gained prominence through Alito’s jurisprudence.
