NY Rep. Pat Ryan urges Biden to step aside 'for the good of the country'
Biden has faced a litany of calls to abandon his reelection bid in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
New York Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan on Wednesday urged President Joe Biden to step aside in favor of another Democratic nominee in 2024.
Biden has faced a litany of calls to abandon his reelection bid in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Ryan was the eighth House Democrat to ask him to leave the race, according to The Hill.
“I’d be doing a grave disservice if I said he was the best candidate to serve this fall,” Ryan told the New York Times.
"For the good of our country, for my two young kids, I’m asking Joe Biden to step aside in the upcoming election and deliver on the promise to be a bridge to a new generation of leaders," he continued.
During the CNN presidential debate, Biden often stumbled over his words and appeared lost on stage, delivering a performance that renewed scrutiny over his age and fitness for office.
He has thus far resisted calls to abandon his reelection campaign and on Monday wrote to lawmakers on Capitol Hill urging them to rally behind his candidacy.
