The Supreme Court on Thursday blocked Mexico's $10 billion lawsuit against U.S. firearm manufacturers on Thursday.

Mexico alleged that the companies' business practices have fueled cartel violence and killings, according to the Associated Press.

The high court unanimously dismissed the case under U.S. laws that largely protect firearm manufacturers from liability when their guns are used in crimes.

Smith & Wesson and other major gun manufacturers appealed to the high court after a lower court allowed the lawsuit to move forward under an exception for situations in which companies are accused of violating the law themselves. Mexico had asked the court to let the case continue as it was in its early stages.
