Student loan forgiveness itself has faced a litany of legal challenges.

A pair of federal judges in Washington and Massachusetts blocked the Trump administration's planned restrictions on eligibility for student loan forgiveness.

The administration had sought to limit the eligibility of borrowers for loan forgiveness if their employers had a "substantial illegal purpose," The Hill reported.

D.C.-based District Judge Amir Ali struck down the policy after a group of pro-immigration non-profits challenged it. Massachusetts-based District Judge Myong Joun blocked the policy, citing potential First Amendment violations.

Student loan forgiveness itself has faced a litany of legal challenges. President Joe Biden previously attempted to enact a sweeping loan forgiveness program, which the Supreme Court struck down.
