Ukraine-Russia talks end with no agreement except to continue negotiations
Ukraine largely has the support of Western nations, whom Putin has accused of trying to lure away Ukraine
Initial talks Monday to try to stop Russia's invasion into neighboring Ukraine and the Ukrainians' military response ended with no agreement but the sides reportedly have agreed to keep negotiating.
The talks came on the fifth day of the Russian invasion, with over 100 civilians in Ukraine reportedly killed. Russia has reportedly acknowledged casualties but has not said how many.
The invasion and the fear of horrible outcome reached new levels this past weekend when Russian leader Vladimir Putin raised the specter of a nuclear war.
A top Putin aide and head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, said the envoys in the talks "found certain points on which common positions could be foreseen.” He said they agreed to continue the discussions in the coming days, according to the Associated Press.
Ukraine largely has the support of Western nations, whom Putin has accused of trying to lure away Ukraine and other former Soviet-bloc countries.
