Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday night dubbed President Donald Trump's foreign policy approach to Iran as the "Trump doctrine," highlighting the administration's success in bombing Iran's nuclear facilities without American casualties.

The comment occurred during Vance's keynote address at an Ohio Republican Party dinner in Lima. Vance represented the state in the Senate before he became vice president.

Vance said the bombing over the weekend was "wildly successful" and claimed it was part of a "new foreign policy doctrine." Iran did retaliate against the bombing but no American troops in the Middle East were hurt.

“What I call the Trump Doctrine is quite simple: Number one, you articulate a clear American interest and that’s, in this case, that Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon,” Vance said. “Number two, you try to aggressively diplomatically solve that problem. And number three, when you can’t solve it diplomatically, you use overwhelming military power to solve it and then you get the hell out of there before it ever becomes a protracted conflict.”

Vance previously admitted that he understood why some members of the Republican Party were against the operation, but claimed that the president deserves the trust of the American people.

"I believe the president has earned some trust on this issue," he said in a lengthy social media post last week. "Having seen this up close and personal, I can assure you that he is only interested in using the American military to accomplish the American people's goals. Whatever he does, that is his focus."
