Bondi taps federal New York prosecutor to lead probe into Epstein's relationship with Democrats
Bondi said she has selected acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton to lead the investigation.
Attorney General Pam Bondi on Friday announced she has selected a top federal prosecutor in New York to handle the Justice Department's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's alleged ties to former President Bill Clinton and other Democrats.
President Donald Trump directed Bondi to investigate the alleged ties earlier Friday, along with alleged ties to major banks like JP Morgan and Chase. The probe comes after House Oversight Democrats released emails between Epstein and others regarding the president.
Bondi said she has selected acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton to lead the investigation.
"Clayton is one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country, and I’ve asked him to take the lead," Bondi said on X. "As with all matters, the Department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people."
Clayton will also investigate Clinton's former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.
The acting attorney previously served as the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission during Trump’s first administration.
