The FBI has arrested 19 people for allegedly attempting to scam over 500 seniors out of roughly $40 million, FBI Director Kash Patel says.

"Tremendous work out of @FBISanDiego today with partners," Patel posted on X on Wednesday. "Criminal networks targeting seniors with financial fraud is one of the most important issues in America not enough people are talking about.

"Please check in on your loved ones. Report suspicious activity to law enforcement. President @realDonaldTrump and team gave us a mandate to go after this garbage and that’s what we’re doing."

The agency's San Diego bureau said its "Elder Justice" task force and partners uncovered an "elaborate international tech support and refund" scam targeting the seniors but provided no further details.
