FBI arrests Kansas City man suspected of attacking Tesla facilities
The arrest marks the second apprehension the bureau has made this week in relation to attacks on multiple Tesla facilities. The first arrest took place on Saturday and was in relation to an arson attack on a Tesla facility in New Mexico.
FBI Director Kash Patel on Friday announced that the bureau has arrested a Kansas City resident on charges related to a series of attacks on Tesla facilities.
The arrest marks the second apprehension the bureau has made this week in relation to attacks on multiple Tesla facilities. The first arrest took place on Saturday and was for an arson attack on a Tesla facility in New Mexico.
The arrests come after Attorney General Pam Bondi authorized the bureau to create a taskforce to investigate the attacks.
"This morning, I can report the FBI arrested another suspect on charges related to attacking Tesla facilities," Patel posted to X. "This individual we believe set fire to multiple Tesla vehicles at a dealership in Kansas City, MO on March 17th. This is our second Tesla-related arrest this week as our FBI teams continue our aggressive work to crack down on domestic terrorism cases like this one."
A criminal complaint, which was unveiled on Friday, charges 19-year-old Owen McIntire with one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device, and one count of malicious damage by fire of any property used in interstate commerce, for his alleged role in attacking the Kansas City Tesla Center.
Bondi also confirmed the arrest in a post on X, and warned people against joining the attacks.
“Let me be extremely clear to anyone who still wants to firebomb a Tesla property: you will not evade us,” Bondi said in a press release. "You will be arrested. You will be prosecuted. You will spend decades behind bars. It is not worth it.”
