Federal agencies are advising their civilian workforce not to comply with Elon Musk's email requesting they justify their jobs or resign.

Musk announced Saturday on X that the email asking employees to list 5 things they did last week was being distributed with President Trump's approval. Musk said a lack of a response would be considered a resignation.

The FBI, State Department and the Defense Department have reportedly told their employees they did not have to respond.

The Associated Press reported that public sector unions are demanding that the Trump administration formally withdraw the email or face a lawsuit.
