Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte on Wednesday announced that the agency was actively exploring the prospect of introducing "portable mortgages" to assist with housing affordability.

"We are actively evaluating portable mortgages," he said. A portable mortgage is a housing loan that a home buyer may transfer from one property to a new home when moving.

The announcement follows the Trump administration's much-maligned unveiling of a plan for 50-year mortgages that also reportedly originated with the FHFA chief.
