Hegseth vows to act 'swiftly and decisively' if Iran retaliates as major cities go on high alert

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear sites as "bold" and "brilliant," emphasizing that Iran's "nuclear ambitions have been obliterated."

Hegseth said that Iran should take that the path of peace.

"The United States does not seek war, but let me be clear, we will act swiftly and decisively when our people, our partners or our interests are threatened," he said. "President Trump said no nukes. He seeks peace, and Iran should take that path."

He also said the B-2 bombs were in and out "without the world knowing at all."

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. Dan Caine said the attack has resulted in extensive damage to Iran's nuclear infrastructure.

New York City, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. are on high alert, according to officials.

U.S. military bases in the Middle East are also on high alert.
