ICE makes high profile arrest of a wanted 'suspected terrorist' in Maryland
At the time of his arrest, Joel Armando Mejia-Benitez, 38, had no visas pending or approved.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made a major arrest in Maryland of a suspected international terrorist.
The Department of Homeland Security told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview that the agency had arrested a "validated MS-13 gang member" from El Salvador on Monday.
At the time of his arrest, Joel Armando Mejia-Benitez, 38, had no visas pending or approved.
"ICE Baltimore arrested Joel Armando Mejia-Benitez, an MS-13 gang member with an Interpol Red Notice," DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told the news outlet.
McLaughlin told Fox News Digital that Mejia-Benitez illegally entered the U.S. in 2005 before being deported. He came to the U.S. again on an unknown date and was arrested in Baltimore in 2014. "He was issued a notice to appear and released back into Silver Spring, MD," according to McLaughlin, who said the illegal migrant should never have been allowed into the U.S.
"Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, he is off our streets and will soon be out of our country."
