Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has announced plans for a new state-run Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention space – this one in Indiana and named "The Speedway Slammer."

"COMING SOON to Indiana: The Speedway Slammer," Noem said in a statement on Tuesday. "Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds.

Noem had suggested earlier this week that such facilities and partnerships would soon come to fruition and that prototype would be the recently opened "Alligator Alcatraz" in Florida.

"Thanks to Governor Braun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country," Noem also said in announcing the newest faciity. "If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer."

The name of the space reflects Indiana’s auto racing culture, which is known for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

ICE is partnering with Indiana to use bed space at the Miami Correctional Center for illegal immigrants facing deportation. The partnership is funded by money set aside in President Trump's new tax-and-spending bill known as the One Big Beautiful Bill.

“We are proud to work with President Trump and Secretary Noem as they remove the worst of the worst with this innovative partnership,” Indiana GOP Gov. Mike Braun said in a statement. “Indiana is taking a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating illegal immigration and will continue to lead the way among states.”

He also said that the Indiana National Guard's Camp Atterbury will be available for temporary use by the Department of Homeland Security for housing illegal immigrants, The New York Post reported.
