Patel reveals FBI, NYPD prevented potential mass shooting at a NYC high school
Patel said the New York City operation was carried out after a tip was placed in the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center. The alleged target was the Benjamin Cardoso High School.
FBI Director Kash Patel on Thursday announced that the FBI and the New York Police Department (NYPD) teamed up to stop a potential school shooting at a New York City high school, after receiving a tip.
The latest intervention comes after Patel revealed a similar move earlier this month, where authorities thwarted a potential attack at a North Carolina preschool. The suspect in that threat allegedly posted online that he intended to "shoot up" a preschool, injuring or killing 20 black children.
Patel said the New York City operation was carried out after a tip was made to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center. The alleged target was Benjamin Cardoso High School.
"Based on a quick response by the NYPD and FBI personnel, a student was arrested with a loaded firearm," Patel posted on X. "The FBI will continue to work tirelessly to protect our children. Huge thanks to the NYPD and [New York FBI office] for teaming up yet again to protect our country."
Patel did not name the suspect in the latest operation or the age of the alleged potential shooter. The motive for the most recent potential shooting was also not immediately clear.
