U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said Friday that D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is not under investigation after a media report claimed she was for her 2023 trip to Qatar.

The FBI told 7News that they do not confirm or deny any investigation into Bowser. Axios reported that a Trump administration official said Bowser is not under federal investigation.

Bowser's office said that neither the city nor its lawyers were notified of any investigation.

The statements follow a New York Times report claiming that Bowser was being investigated by the Justice Department for committing corruption.

According to 7News, documents showed that Qatar paid over $61,000 for Bowser and four aides to travel to the Middle East in 2023.

“This was a business trip; DC representatives regularly travel to promote Washington as a destination for investment and growth. This regular work has helped bring investment, infrastructure, new business, new grocery stores, growth, and jobs to the District. In some cases, economic development funds are used for the business travel; in other cases, the host or organizer cover the expenses. All proper paperwork for this standard donation is on file,” Bowser’s office said.

Bowser previously admitted to not following her own rules for the Middle East trip, according to the news outlet. Her office said a letter from Qatar met paperwork requirements, but the letter was missing information required by her own policy.
