The Trump administration has filed an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, asking to allow the firing of the head of the federal agency dedicated to protecting whistleblowers.

The Justice Department wants the justices to lift a judge’s court order that reinstalled Hampton Dellinger as the leader of the Office of Special Counsel temporarily through Feb. 26.

Dellinger has sued over his removal, arguing that the justification had to be related to job performance.

According to the Associated Press, the justices won't consider the appeal until Tuesday at the earliest.
