Trump nominates State undersecretary to replace Kari Lake at US Agency for Global Media
The U.S. Agency for Global Media oversees Voice of America
President Trump has nominated Sarah B. Rogers, undersecretary of State for public diplomacy, to replace Kari Lake as CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media.
Trump nominated Rogers on Thursday, after a judge ruled that Lake was unlawfully running the agency as its acting CEO, The Hill news outlet reported. Rogers would replace current acting USAGM CEO Michael Rigas if the Senate confirms her nomination.
USAGM oversees Voice of America. The judge's ruling nullified mass layoffs Lake initiated at Voice of America.
Rogers represented the National Rifle Association in its 2024 Supreme Court case challenging the New York Department of Financial Services for attempting to sway financial institutions away from doing business with the gun rights group. The high court unanimously sided with the NRA, ruling the conduct violated the First Amendment.
She joined the Trump administration in October, and has openly criticized European countries' online censorship laws.
Earlier this month, Rogers apologized to Czechia and Slovakia for the Biden administration "queering" the countries' maps.
Following the court ruling against her, Lake vowed to appeal the ruling, NBC News reported.
“Judge Lamberth has a pattern of activist rulings — and this case is no different,” Lake said in a statement.
Lake posted on X on Thursday, "A rotund DC District Court judge wants me OUT of the agency, but despite his absurd orders and rulings, I remain in the exact same position today as I was before: Deputy CEO — where I am even more determined to finish the job."
"I look forward to working with Deputy Secretary Rigas (@DepSecStateMR), a patriotic fighter with experience reducing the size of government, who will serve as Acting CEO. Together, Mike and I, while we wait for Under Secretary Rogers (@UnderSecPD) to be confirmed as USAGM CEO, will root-out corruption at the agency and make it more accountable to American taxpayers," she later added.
