Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Wednesday told President Donald Trump during a Cabinet meeting that she has closed down an office that operated as a “slush fund” for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Gabbard said the closure of the Intelligence Community Human Capital office, which was officially shut down earlier Wednesday, will save American taxpayers approximately $150 million.

“We discovered this human capital office that was essentially a slush fund for DEI initiatives hidden under the guise of human capital that closed down this morning,” the director said, per the Washington Times

Gabbard did not elaborate on how the office operated as a slush fund, but the ODNI website describes the program as seeking to "develop diverse pools of talent, recruit and retain the best for our workforce."

She also said her office has saved taxpayers another $2.6 billion so far from contracts and programs “that do nothing to ensure our national security interests." The actions have reportedly made the agency 25% “smaller and more lean” than before her tenure.

Gabbard also emphasized her efforts to end politicization within the intelligence community, which included referring alleged leakers of classified information to the Justice Department for prosecution.

"I'm grateful to have the privilege of leading the intelligence community towards ending the weaponization [and] politicization of the intelligence community [that] has gone on for far too long," Gabbard said. "We're working every day to hold the deep state accountable."

She added that her office is working to revoke 67 security clearances, declassify documents, and is currently investigating 11 other people over alleged leaks of classified information.
