Protest organizers expect approximately 50,000 people to gather in Washington, D.C., on Saturday to protest President-elect Donald Trump's upcoming inauguration.

The number is drastically smaller than the 500,000 people that protested Trump's first inauguration in 2017, but experts told The Hill that the protest this year is to keep voters engaged rather than portray the emotions that are felt regarding Trump's second victory.

The People's March, which is organized by a coalition of groups including the Women's March, will kick off at various locations in the city, including McPherson Square and ultimately converge on the Lincoln Memorial.

“A lot of things are different,” Tamika Middleton, managing director of the Women’s March, told The Hill. “Our work as organizations this time around has been not to capture the energy of all these people who are being activated, but this time actually, our work has been to keep people from being demobilized, to keep people engaged and to give people something to hope for."

Another protest and rally, organized by Rev. Al Sharpton, founder and President of the National Action Network, is planned for Inauguration Day. The rally portion will coincide with the inauguration, and is expected to draw a crowd of 15,000 protesters, per Axios.
