The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said that the investigation into Carrie Romney's death is ongoing, and that her cause of death will be "determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s Office."

A Los Angeles Sheriff's Department representative told PEOPLE earlier on Monday that a woman jumped or fell from a nearby parking structure. The garage is five stories and next to a Hyatt Regency hotel, NBC Los Angeles, reported.

Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office records list her cause of death as deferred as of Monday, which means it is pending additional investigation. Her body status is listed as "ready for release."

"Foul play has not been ruled out, but as of right now, there is no evidence of it," Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesperson Lt. Daniel Vizcarra told the Daily Mail.

Carrie Romney was the third wife of Mitt Romney's older brother, George Romney, 81, who goes by Scott, is a well-known attorney, and the father of former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel through his first marriage.

Scott Romney filed for divorce on June 10 after marrying Carrie Romney in November 2016, citing irreconcilable differences, according to files obtained by the Daily Mail. They had no children together.

He stated in the divorce filing that most of their assets had been obtained separately before the marriage.

Scott Romney mentioned that his wife was seeking spousal support, which he opposed, and requested that she change her name back to her maiden name, Carrie Elizabeth Dimas.
