Ten Smithsonians open to public after nearly six months
The museums have slowly opened over the past few weeks.
More than six months after the start of the pandemic, the Smithsonian museums are starting to reopen to the public. Ten of the Smithsonian attractions in Washington D.C. and Virginia are open for visitors while the remaining 13 attractions are still closed.
The landmark attractions featuring some of the most famous historical works are one of the main tourist attractions in the nation's capitol.
The re-opening will require visitors to practice virus health-safety precautions and visitors must reserve a free time slot online to keep down attendance numbers.
“As we gradually reopen the Smithsonian, we’re putting safety first with new measures in place to protect everyone’s health" the Smithsonian website states.
The Virginia National Air and Space Museum and the National Zoo opened in late July. Other museums recently opened include The National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The National Museum of American History and the National Museum of the American Indian opened their doors Friday. Two of the Smithsonian museums in New York City remain closed at this time.
