Authorities have still not released cause of fire at South Carolina judge's home
Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein's husband and son were hospitalized
Authorities have released the cause of a weekend fire at a South Carolina judge's home in which three people were hospitalized.
The house on Edisto Beach in South Carolina went up in flames on Saturday, and belongs to Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein and her husband, former state Sen. Arnold Goodstein, FOX 17 reported. Because of the house's remote location, occupants had to be rescued using kayaks.
Goodstein has reportedly been subjected to death threats in recent weeks, Time Magazine reported. Last month, she temporarily blocked the state’s election commission from releasing its voter files to the Department of Justice, which was reversed by the state Supreme Court.
According to the state Supreme Court, "local law enforcement partners have been alerted and asked to provide extra patrols and security. The Judicial Branch will remain in close communication with [South Carolina Law Enforcement Division].”
Those hospitalized are all family members of Goodstein, a Democrat-appointed judge, and also include son Arnold Goodstein II, The Guardian reported.
Goodstein, 69, was walking her dogs when the fire erupted at the three-story home in the luxury gated community.
A spokesperson for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed it was investigating a fire in the county.
“The investigation is active and ongoing. More information may be available as the investigation continues,” a spokesperson told FITSNews.
