Foundation for Freedom Online Executive Director Mike Benz said Tuesday that he wants the federal government to have control of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department as part of President Donald Trump's plan to clean up crime in major cities.

"I want them to go even further," Benz said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "I want them to take full control over the Metropolitan Police Department. I want to see the footprint expanded into a lot of the more crime-ridden areas, particularly that border with Maryland and Prince George's County."

Earlier this month, Trump deployed the National Guard to D.C. as part of an initiative to crack down on crime.

Trump later said that New York City and Chicago would be the next cities where he will beef up the federal security presence to crack down on crime.

"You'll see the political machinery in a place like Chicago, which is one of the most corrupt regions in the entire United States, still fighting tooth and nail and use... as much legacy media cover as they can to try to say somehow this is a federal overreach, whereas it is not," Benz said.
