New Hampshire Democrat Sen. Shaheen announces retirement, says won't seek 2026 reelection
Shaheen is the third Senate Democrat to announce their retirement this year.
New Hampshire Democrat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen announced Wednesday that she is retiring and will not seek reelection in 2026.
Shaheen is the the state's senior Democratic senator. Her announcement sets up an open-seat race in a battleground state.
The 78-year-old senator told the The New York Times her decision was a "difficult" one, citing President Trump, and at least in part "what he’s doing right now."
Shaheen is the third Senate Democrat to announce their retirement this year, according to The Hill newspaper.
