CENTCOM says US forces destroyed Iranian-affiliated ship targeting Navy in Gulf of Oman
The strike was executed Oct. 6. Crew members on board the ship were safely removed before the destruction of the ship.
The United States Central Command said Wednesday that American forces recently destroyed an Iranian-affiliated vessel in the Gulf of Oman that was reportedly conducting surveillance and targeting U.S. Navy ships.
CENTCOM said the interaction took place last week, on Oct. 6, and that crew members on board the ship were safely removed before the destruction of the ship.
"Over the past seven months, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has continued to indiscriminately target thousands of civilian mariners transiting regional waters in addition to U.S. Navy warships," CENTCOM said in an X post that included footage of the operation. "Crew members were safely removed prior to destruction of the dhow. Repatriation efforts are ongoing."
The news comes the day after the Pentagon said CENTCOM disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman over the weekend after the ship's crew ignored multiple warnings and attempted to run the naval blockade against Iran.
The U.S. military jet struck the stern of the Panama-flagged motor vessel Ocean Molica with a precision munition, fully crippling the ship's propulsion without harming the crew.
