ICE agents injure two illegal migrants after shooting at moving vehicle in Maryland: DHS
A spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department said neither person had life-threatening injuries, and both have been taken to the hospital.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents injured two allegedly illegal migrants in Maryland on Wednesday morning after shooting at a moving vehicle whose driver allegedly attempted to run them over.
The shooting reportedly broke out after ICE agents attempted to approach a white van at approximately 10:50 a.m., but the driver of the van allegedly accelerated the vehicle and attempted to run the officers over. The agents then fired at the vehicle, which stopped in a wooded area nearby, the Associated Press reported.
A spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department told the outlet that neither person had life-threatening injuries, and both were taken to the hospital. The police department said it is investigating the incident.
The Department of Homeland Security said both men were in the United States illegally but did not state whether they have been arrested. The driver was reportedly from Portugal, while the passenger of the vehicle was from El Salvador.
Our brave officers are risking their lives every day to keep American communities safe by arresting and removing illegal aliens from our streets," the department said on X. "Continued efforts to encourage illegal aliens and violent agitators to actively resist ICE will only lead to more violent incidents. The extremist rhetoric must stop."
An investigation into the shooting is currently underway and the FBI is expected to investigate the alleged assault on the agents, while ICE conducts an internal review.
