Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on Thursday arrested an alleged illegal migrant in Nebraska who has been accused of being a gang member on El Salvador's “Top 100 Most Wanted" list.

The agency claimed the illegal migrant is a high-ranking member of the violent El Salvador gang MS-13, who is wanted for aggravated homicide of five victims, attempted homicide, deprivation of liberty and terrorist organization affiliation.

The migrant, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested alongside another suspected gang member who was living in the United States illegally.

“When ICE agents move in to make an arrest, it is extremely important that the public not interfere,” ICE acting Director Todd Lyons said in a statement. “The misinformation, and sometimes blatant lies, being spread around the country could result in someone stepping into a federal operation and suddenly finding themselves face-to-face with a killer who has nothing to lose.”

The Department of Homeland Security's Investigations (HSI) team is leading a probe into the migrants, along with ICE's Enforcement Removal Operations, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

“These illegal aliens didn’t just sneak into our country; they brought with them a legacy of violence, terror and death,” HSI Kansas City Special Agent in Charge Mark Zito, who also oversees Omaha, said in a statement. “They thought they could hide in America’s heartland, but they were sadly mistaken. Not on our watch.”
