ICE to deport Abrego Garica to 'third country' after bringing him back from El Salvador: Reports
The Trump administration recently began deporting illegal aliens to third-party countries due to difficulties in returning them from whence they came. South Sudan has ranked among the most public of these destinations.
The Trump administration is moving to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to an unspecified "third country" after returning him to the U.S. from El Salvador.
Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Guynn told the court on Thursday that "[o]ur plan is that he will be taken into ICE custody and removal proceedings will be initiated," Axios reported. When pressed on his destination, Guynn stated "To a third country is my understanding."
Abrego Garcia is an illegal alien from El Salvador whom the Trump administration deported despite a withholding order. His case became a national spectacle and Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., went so far as to visit him in the El Salvadoran prison. The Trump administration ultimately returned Abrego Garcia to the U.S. amid a legal battle and his since charged him with smuggling illegal immigrants.
