Pakistan, China unveil 5-point Iran war peace plan

Pakistan and China on Tuesday unveiled a five-point peace plan to end the ongoing Iran war as the conflict nears the five-week mark with no signs of an imminent end.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry published the plan to social media, calling for 1) an immediate ceasefire 2) the start of peace talks 3) the cessation of strikes on non-military targets 4) the protection of key shipping lanes and 5) an agreement with UN support.

Pakistan has played a role as an intermediary between the U.S. and Iran, while China has faced allegations of aiding Iran against the U.S. The U.S. is unlikely to embrace the proposal as it makes not mention of nuclear proliferation or uranium enrichment.

The Trump administration ostensibly began the war to ensure that Iran remained unable to develop a nuclear weapon. President Donald Trump initially suggested that the timeline for the conflict would be roughly five weeks, though that milestone is fast approaching and the war appears nowhere near a resolution.
