Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday reportedly fired the general whose agency was responsible for releasing an intelligence report on the damage caused by U.S. airstrikes on Iran that has been heavily criticized by the Trump administration.

The leaked intelligence report, which was reported by the New York Times and CNN, claimed that the bombing had only set Iran back in its nuclear program by a few months, but President Donald Trump and his administration have repeatedly stated that the operation succeeded in effectively eliminating Iran's nuclear capabilities.

The Pentagon has confirmed to multiple outlets that Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is no longer serving in the leadership role, though no official reason for the firing has been given.

Deputy Defense Intelligence Agency Director Christine Bordine is serving as the acting director of the agency in Kruse's place, a defense official told the Washington Examiner

Kruse's exit comes the same week that Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin announced he was planning to retire in November, despite only serving in his post for two years out of the five-year term. Allvin did not give a reason for his departure.
