Putin floats extending nuclear arms pact by one year

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday offered a one-year extension on a nuclear arms control deal to President Donald Trump as the last relevant treaty between Moscow and Washington nears expiration.

The U.S. and Russia's final nuclear arms agreement will expire on February 5, Reuters reported. Putin's offer comes as Trump struggles to gain momentum for a peace deal to end the Ukraine War.

Putin visited Alaska last month, where he met with Trump. The pair discussed a possible resolution to the conflict and speculation emerged that he would meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. That meeting did not materialize and the Russians have pressed forward with their offensive into Ukraine.

Trump, for his part, has yet to respond to Putin's offer.
