A Texas murder suspect allegedly entered the United States illegally through the controversial Customs and Border Protection (CBP) One app, the Daily Wire reported on Thursday.

Javier Roman Hernandez, who is charged in connection with the death of 43-year-old Mary Gonzales in Austin, Texas, came into the U.S. through the Hidalgo, Texas, Point of Entry in July 2023.

Hernandez was arrested Oct. 8 and charged with murdering Gonzales, whose body was discovered with a gunshot in a wooded area on Oct. 6.

One other person was charged in connection with Gonzales' death, but it's not clear when he entered the U.S. or where.

“These alleged cold-blooded murderers should have never been in our country in the first place and Mary Gonzales should still be alive,” Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

“One of these criminals came into our country using Biden’s disastrous CBP One app," she continued. "Open border policies have deadly consequences. Under President Trump and [Homeland Security] Secretary [Kristi] Noem, these accused murderers will never be free on American streets to commit heinous crimes again.”

The CBP One app, which was launched in 2023, allowed migrants to schedule asylum appointments with U.S. immigration officials once they reached Mexico City or states in northern Mexico. Trump closed down the app shortly after taking office.
