President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed surprise that British authorities had released several suspects in an alleged plot against an airbase used by the U.S. in the Iran war, but insisted that the authorities "know what they're doing."

"I was surprised at that. We are going to speak. They were released on bail. I have a lot of respect, however, for Scotland Yard. I think they know what they're doing, but I was a little bit surprised," he told reporters.

Authorities arrested five men in late September near Fairford Air Base in Gloucestershire, England. They were later released on bail, but authorities confirmed they were still under investigation.
