Trump tells nations facing oil shortages to buy from U.S. or 'take it' from Iran

President Donald Trump on Tuesday told nations facing fuel shortages due to the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz to either buy from the United States or take military action to reopen the waterway.

The comments come as Trump ramps up his criticisms of NATO allies over their refusal to cooperate with the U.S. in the ongoing Iran war.

"All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT," he posted on Truth Social.

"You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!" he added.

France, the UK, Germany, and other nations have largely declined to provide military assistance to the U.S. during the conflict, though several nations signed onto a statement of support for an effort to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Senior Trump administration officials, including Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, have expressed their disappointment in the unwillingness of NATO members to aid the U.S.

"A lot has been laid bare. A lot has been shown to the world about what our allies would be willing to do for the United States of America when we undertake an effort of this scope," he said, during a press conference on Tuesday. "When we ask for additional assistance... we get questions, or roadblocks, or hesitation."
