United States Border Patrol agents on Thursday announced they had arrested an illegal migrant from Somalia at the U.S. northern border earlier this month, who was previously convicted of armed bank robbery in 2007.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents arrested 43-year-old Hassan Mohamed on April 7, after a concerned citizen reported a break-in at a barn near Fort Covington, New York.

He was not in possession of documents that allowed him to remain in the U.S. or be in the country legally at the time of his arrest, the agency said. They also found that he had been convicted of armed bank robbery in Missouri nearly two decades ago, and was sentenced to 93 months in prison.

“We can’t emphasize enough the importance of citizens reporting suspicious activity, and this arrest is a great example of that,” Burke Station Patrol Agent in Charge Dustin Judd said in a statement. “It takes all of us to help make our communities safer and secure our nation’s borders. If you see something, say something."

The suspect has been charged with reentry after removal following a conviction for committing an aggravated felony, which comes after a previous judge ordered his deportation in 2017.
