US loses fighter jet after plane rolls off USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier

The Navy on Monday announced that it lost a fighter jet after the plane rolled off the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and sank into the Red Sea. One sailor suffered a minor injury.
The incident, which has been attributed to human error, occurred when the crew of the F/A-18E Super Hornet lost control of the plane, while it was being towed out of the hangar bay of the Truman, per ABC News.
“The F/A-18E was actively under tow in the hangar bay when the move crew lost control of the aircraft. The aircraft and tow tractor were lost overboard,” the Navy wrote in a statement. “Sailors towing the aircraft took immediate action to move clear of the aircraft before it fell overboard. An investigation is underway."
The aircraft carrier has been stationed in the Red Sea since September to help protect commercial ships against Houthi attacks in Yemen. Recent attacks did not impact the plane rolling off the ship. The carrier was expected to return home last month, but its mission has since been extended.
