US military says it has redirected 44 vessels in naval blockade against Iran

The United States Central Command said Monday it has redirected 44 commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz so far amid its naval blockade against Iran and disabled two vessels.

CENTCOM resumed its naval blockade against Iran last month, which aims to halt all maritime traffic "entering and exiting" Iranian ports. The Navy first blockaded Iran earlier this year, from April 13 to June 18, at the height of the conflict that began in February.

"U.S. forces continue to strictly enforce the U.S. blockade against Iran," CENTCOM said on X. "As of Aug. 3, CENTCOM has redirected 44 commercial vessels, disabled 2, and boarded 2."

The update comes the same day President Donald Trump said the U.S. is giving Iran “every last chance” to reach a peace deal.

"I want to give them every last chance before decapitation," Trump told reporters. "I'm very proud of the fact that I'll give people a chance. This is a big move to do an attack that big on a country. Hopefully they'll come to their senses. So they called me, and they said, 'Please don't attack. We'll make a deal.' That's the real truth. And everyone knows it."

Trump reiterated that he does not feel a time constraint to resolve the war with Iran, stating that he wants to give Iran a "chance to let a lot of people live."
