White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday told Axios that the Lebanon theater of the war was not included in the ceasefire agreement with Iran, directly contradicting the assertion of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who brokered the agreement.

"White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt tells me Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire agreement with Iran," Axios's Barak Ravid posted.

Lebanon is currently the site of intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which entered the war on Iran's side last month. Sharif's announcement had explicitly stated that the ceasefire applied to Lebanon.

"With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY," he posted Tuesday evening.

Sharif has since highlighted what he called "violations of ceasefire" and urged all parties to stop fighting.

The development comes as Israeli politicians express frustrations with the agreement, with opposition leader and former Prime Minister Yair Lapid calling it a "political disaster."
