'You're fools': Trump backs Rubio on prospect of walking away from Ukraine talks
"If for some reason one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we're just going to say ’you are foolish, you’re fools, you’re horrible people’ and we're going to just take a pass," Trump told reporters.
President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed that the United States was prepared to walk away from efforts to end the Ukraine war if either side proved intransigent.
"If for some reason one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we're just going to say ’you are foolish, you’re fools, you’re horrible people’ and we're going to just take a pass," Trump told reporters. "And Marco's right in saying it."
Trump's remarks follow Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying that the U.S. was prepared to "move on" if negotiations could not end the war.
“If it is not possible to end the war in Ukraine, we need to move on,” he said. "We need to determine very quickly now, and I’m talking about a matter of days, whether or not this is doable."
Trump previously vowed to end the Ukraine war within 24 hours, though he has since struggled to make headway with either Russian President Vladimir Putin or Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
