Zelensky asks G7 for $40 billion per year to keep Ukraine afloat
Zelensky further asked for additional sanctions on Russia to curb its war effort.
Amid the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict and uncertainty surrounding American entry into the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the G7 to approve annual funding for Ukraine to continue its own fight with Russia.
"It’s crucial to have $40 billion annually in budgetary support for Ukraine – to ensure our resilience and the ability of our country to carry on. This should be a joint decision by G7 leaders, including the U.S," he said.
President Donald Trump left the G7 summit in Alberta yesterday to coordinate American security operations as the Iran-Israel conflict escalated. Trump campaigned on ending the Ukraine War in 24 hours, though that self-imposed deadline has long since come and gone.
The conflict shows no signs of ending soon and the U.S. has canceled diplomatic talks with Russia, according to Moscow's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
