Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday expressed heartbreak in a video message about the mass shooting at Florida State University (FSU), and vowed to bring the shooter to justice.

Two people were killed in the shooting, and five people were injured and transported to a local hospital. A hospital spokesperson said the wounded are in fair condition. The suspected shooter has also been taken to the hospital.

DeSantis praised local law enforcement for their fast work at responding to the scene, and said he and his wife, Casey, are mourning for the people who were lost. Details on the two victims have not been released, but they were not students.

"We stand with Florida State University. Today, we are all Seminoles," DeSantis said on X. "This killer must and will be brought to justice to the fullest extent of the law."

The message comes after President Donald Trump, whose primary residence of Mar-a-Lago is located in Florida, said the tragedy at FSU was a "horrible thing."

"It's a shame. Horrible thing. Horrible that things like this take place," he said.

Florida officials have not released a motive for the shooting so far, but have identified the suspect as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, the son of a Leon County sheriff's deputy, and a current Florida State University student.
